As the title suggests, we specialize in neurodivergent affirming therapy in Minnesota, working primarily with Autistic folks, ADHDers, and individuals with OCD on Wahpekute land (colonized as Minnesota [MN]).
What Makes Divergent Grove Therapy Different?
Unlike practices that add “neurodivergent-affirming” to their websites after a brief training, our approach is grounded in lived experience and deep learning. I, Alex McLaughlin, am not only a therapist but also a late-diagnosed Autistic and ADHDer (AuDHDer) with lived experience of OCD.
That means I don’t just understand Autism, ADHD, and OCD from textbooks — I live it every day. This personal perspective shapes how I approach Autism therapy in Minnesota, ADHD therapy in Minnesota, and OCD therapy in Minnesota.

Why Choose Us?
If you’re high-masking, non-stereotypically presenting, or identify with Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA), you may feel at home here. As a PDAer myself, I’ve completed PDA North America’s Level 1 and Level 2 trainings and understand the tension between autonomy and expectations.
Many of my therapy participants come to me after harmful experiences in therapy; being told to make more eye contact, stop stimming, or “act normal.” Our work together won’t be about fixing you or forcing you into neurotypical boxes. Instead, we focus on embracing your authentic self and unlearning oppressive messages.

Understanding Your Neurotype
You may be:
In Autistic burnout or ADHD burnout
Newly diagnosed with Autism, ADHD, or OCD and unsure of next steps
Self-identifying as neurodivergent and seeking support in exploring what that means
Struggling with OCD cycles where obsessions and compulsions take over daily life
For OCD specifically, I provide evidence-based care through Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP therapy for OCD in Minnesota) and Inference-Based CBT (I-CBT therapy for OCD in Minnesota). Unlike some OCD therapy approaches that don’t account for neurodivergence, I adapt these therapies so they work with your neurotype instead of against it.
Our Approach to Therapy
At Divergent Grove Therapy, we don’t mold you into someone you’re not. We see you as a whole person with unique ways of experiencing the world.
Therapy here is about:
Freedom: creating space to live authentically
Validation: affirming your lived experiences
Liberation: unlearning internalized oppression
Congruence: building a life aligned with your values and identity
